Foster care is a temporary living arrangement for youth who cannot live safely with their biological families due to abuse, neglect, or other family challenges.
These youth are placed with trained foster families or in caregivers where they receive love, support, and stability until they can safely return home, be adopted, or find another permanent living solution.
Foster care provides youth with basic needs like food, shelter, education, and emotional support while helping their families work toward reunification when possible. It's a way for the community to step in and care for youth on a path towards stability, offering them hope and a brighter future.
In collaboration with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and local nonprofit organizations, we offer comprehensive case management services for families involved in the foster care system. Individualized treatment plans are developed in partnership with parents and foster care workers to address the unique needs of each family. These plans are then reviewed, approved, and mandated by the court.
Our dedicated foster home licensing specialists collaborate with individuals interested in becoming licensed foster parents. Through thorough interviews and home visits, a comprehensive assessment and recommendation is prepared and submitted to the Department of Child Welfare Licensing (DCWL). Any individual aged 18 or older is eligible to initiate the licensing process. Licensed foster parents are able to choose the number, age range and behavior specifications for their license.
Relatives are a primary consideration for placement when youth come into care. At Rooted, we prioritize building strong relationships with relative caregivers and conduct the necessary assessments to ensure the stability of these placements. Our relative caregivers receive the same level of support and access to resources as our licensed foster homes."
Community members are able to be cleared through our background check process to be able to support a youth and/or parent through developing a strong mentor relationship during a persons journey through foster care.
